Thanks to the support and generosity of our incredible community, Variety – the Children’s Charity NSW/ACT has helped give children the opportunity to live life more fully, regardless of ability or background.

The work we do gives children in NSW and ACT the opportunity to improve mobility, gain freedom and get involved in their community, where they can better communicate, achieve independence, and increase their self-esteem.

Thanks to amazing supporters like you, in FY2023/24 we provided:

Supporting Regional Communities and Schools

One of the memorable stops we made on the 2024 Variety Postie Bike Dash was a fabulous visit to Corowa Primary School where we delivered a grant over $4,977 for outdoor musical instruments, drums and glockenspiels.

Thanks to the generous fundraising of our Dashers, we were able to make the school a fun and more engaging space.

Watching the joy on the faces of the kids is always a special moment.

How We Help Kids in the Community

WE JOIN - COMMUNITY GRANTS

The Variety We Join Community Grant is here to support kids to join in with their communities, no matter their circumstances or address. Schools and organisations are invited to apply for grants up to $10,000 to purchase equipment that will promote access and inclusivity in the community for children aged 0-18 years.

Applications for the We Join Grant can be submitted all year round.

VARIETY HEART SCHOLARSHIPS

Variety Heart Scholarships support kids with a demonstrated talent who are living with a disability, chronic illness or financial hardship, to pursue their dreams and realise their potential. Variety Heart Scholarships are made possible by the support of our partners,

The Grahame Mapp Family Foundation in honour of the late Gillian Mapp.

SUNSHINE COACHES

Variety Sunshine Coaches provide transport to organisations who cater to kids with a physical disability, regional or social disadvantage, to enable them to access the community and to experience a range of special programs and activities.

Variety Sunshine Coaches can be fitted with wheelchair modifications, ensuring that all children can attend excursions and extra-curricular activities together.

WE MOVE - MOBILITY GRANTS

We want to get kids moving so after an extensive review of our existing mobility grants, we created the We Move Grant. This grant funds specialist disability equipment that is not easily available through statutory services such as the NDIS. This life-changing equipment increases physical development, independence and social inclusion.

Applications for the We Move Grant are open all year round.

WE CARE - THERAPY GRANTS

This grant provides financial assistance towards therapy costs to assist children that have been diagnosed with a condition and are waiting for an NDIS plan, or are ineligible for NDIS support. The grant is up to the value of $2000 over a twelve-month period.

The Guidelines for the We Care – Therapy Grant were updated on October 1st 2023 and the eligibility criteria has changed. Please ensure that you download the latest version.

WE CARE - WIG GRANTS

Variety provides wigs to kids who have lost their hair due to alopecia or another medical condition that results in permanent hair loss. Losing your hair can have profound psychological effects, particularly through childhood and adolescence. One specialised wig can cost up to $6,000 and lasts two to three years so the cost is prohibitive for many families.

Applications for Wig Grants are open all year round.

We are a very small school of 8 enrolled students. Variety has been very generous with their support - they’ve provided us with a 3D printer. The kids really looked forward to their visit. We are very grateful for the support.
