Why the Variety Bash?

For those who might not know, the Variety Bash isn’t just any road trip. It’s Australia’s largest and longest-running motoring fundraiser, where car enthusiasts, adventurers, and big-hearted people drive across the country in pre-1994 vehicles. It’s all in the name of raising money for Variety - the Children's Charity, which supports Aussie kids who are sick, disadvantaged, or living with special needs.

Every year, this fundraiser combines the best of both worlds: an unforgettable road trip through stunning landscapes with mates and the joy of giving back. And trust me, when you see the smiles on the kids' faces, you know every mile driven and every dollar raised is worth it.

8 Years On—Why I Keep Coming Back

So, why have I strapped myself into a car year after year for 8 years running? The answer is simple: the cause, the community, and the kids.

• The Cause: Variety has a direct and tangible impact. From life-changing equipment like wheelchairs to educational support and life-enriching experiences, Variety helps where it’s needed most.
• The Community: The Bash community is one-of-a-kind. It’s made up of generous, fun-loving people who know how to make a difference—and have a laugh while doing it. I’m proud to be part of this family.
• The Kids: When we arrive in towns along the Bash route, the local kids light up. Seeing their joy and knowing we’re helping their futures is what fuels me to keep coming back for more.

The Highlights of My Bash Journey

Over the years, I’ve driven through dust storms, crossed rivers, laughed until my sides hurt, and made lifelong friendships. Every Bash has its unique challenges and triumphs, but the memories I’ve created are priceless. Whether it’s pushing through tough terrain or dressing up in ridiculous costumes for a laugh, it’s all part of the Bash magic.

Most importantly, I’ve been part of something bigger—a movement that has raised millions for kids who need it.
