This year, six-year-old Theodore was seen by a Paediatrician for the first time.
This appointment was life-changing for him and his mum Renee.
“There was a backlog for children seeing paediatricians and I was on the waiting list for two years. I felt like I was failing as a mum. I knew something was up with Theodore and I just needed the diagnosis so I could help him,” said Theodore’s mum, Renee.
Theodore is finally getting the help he needs as part of Variety's Flying Start Paediatric Service.
The Variety Flying Start Paediatric Service is a flying outreach service that offers free paediatric assessments for children and young people in Western NSW.
The Variety Flying Start Paediatric Service enables children and young people in Western NSW to access free paediatric health assessments in their own community.
A fully integrated healthcare model means the paediatrician arrives with comprehensive information to fast-track care and diagnosis. His visit is supported by a multidisciplinary team of allied health professionals, community GPs and therapists to ensure ongoing support is provided and families are able to unlock much needed assistance from the NDIS.
