Thanks to the support and generosity of our incredible community, Variety – the Children’s Charity NSW/ACT has helped give children the opportunity to live life without limits, regardless of ability or background.
The work we do gives children in NSW and ACT the opportunity to improve mobility, gain freedom and get involved in their community, where they can better communicate, achieve independence, and increase their self-esteem.
Thanks to amazing supporters like you, in FY2023/24 we provided:
- $2,100,000 to help kids in need
- impact to 58,364 children
- 362 Grants across NSW and ACT
Supporting Regional Communities and Schools
One truly memorable Bash visit was Toomelah Public School in northwestern NSW, a regional community with significant needs but enormous community spirit.
Thanks to the tireless fundraising of our Bashers, we were able to gift every single student from Toomelah Public School a brand-new bike, new helmet, and a custom-made name plate.
Watching the joy on the faces of the children as they pedalled away for the first time was a moment none of us will ever forget.

How We Help Kids in the Community
Mobility Equipment Grants
We want to get kids moving so after an extensive review of our existing mobility grants, we created the Mobility Equipment Grant. This grant funds specialist disability equipment that is not easily available through statutory services such as the NDIS. This life-changing equipment increases physical development, independence and social inclusion.
Therapy Grants
There are many children living in NSW or ACT who require therapy for physical or behavioural disability.This grant provides financial assistance towards therapy costs to assist children that have been diagnosed with a condition and are ineligible for NDIS support. The grant is up to the value of $2000 over a twelve-month period.
Wig Grants
Variety provides wigs to kids who have lost their hair due to alopecia or another medical condition that results in permanent hair loss. Losing your hair can have profound psychological effects, particularly through childhood and adolescence. One specialised wig can cost up to $6,000 and lasts two to three years so the cost is prohibitive for many families.
Community Grants
We are currently updating our Community Grant program so we can continue giving kids across NSW and the ACT the opportunities they need to overcome challenges, experience joy, and reach their full potential.
Variety Heart Scholarships
Variety Heart Scholarships support kids with a demonstrated talent who are living with a disability, chronic illness or financial hardship, to pursue their dreams and realise their potential. Variety Heart Scholarships are made possible by the support of our partners,The Grahame Mapp Family Foundation in honour of the late Gillian Mapp.
Sunshine Coaches
Variety Sunshine Coaches provide transport to organisations who cater to kids with a physical disability, regional or social disadvantage, to enable them to access the community and to experience a range of special programs and activities. Coaches can be fitted with wheelchair modifications, ensuring that all children can attend excursions and extra-curricular activities together.
